Gouda. Guldenbrug

Golden Bridge
This single drawbridge over the Turfsingelgracht, intended only for bicycle and pedestrian traffic, forms the connection between the city center (via the Vlamingstraat) with the district of Korte Akkeren (via the Veerstraat), which was previously serviced by a ferry. Inaugurated in 1972. In the 16th century there was also a bridge at the same place. This bridge was demolished during the siege of Leiden (1572), presumably to facilitate the passage of warships.
