DU MOULIN PARK TRACK

Destination Paddled: Moulin Park, Ottawa River, Rockland, Ontario
Date: September 24, 2020
Number of Paddlers: 3
Temperature: 14C (57.2 F)
Distance paddled: 7.4 km (4.6 miles)

Well, this was the paddle that we have tried to do a couple of times previously this year but one thing and another prevented it. Last time we did this paddle was in July 2016. Several of the homes in the area have been “enhanced” and the swamp area is more extensive. However, the swamp area is another (future) paddle.

Moulin Park is a nice fair size park by the water in Rockland with a double launch ramp and 3 docks for boaters. There is also lots of parking for both vehicles and vehicles with trailers.

The launch area was busy but not overly busy. We were able to use the ramp and dock to get into our kayaks and didn't prevent anyone else from using the facilities while waiting for us. There were boats around but they were all well away from us so it was nice.

We took a tour along the shoreline looking at some of the pricey homes in the area. WAY more that I could afford and also too big for what I would want. One was for sale.

When we were at this same area back in 2016 we did a paddle on a very narrow creek that started from the Ottawa River and went back through housing developments. We didn't get very far last time. We decided to try again. We got further this time (2 km/1.2 miles) but still not all the way. As we paddled along the creek wandered back and forth and was narrow and shallow in spots with big rocks to run into. The creek kind of disappeared. After executing a multi point turn in our kayaks we headed back to the Ottawa River.

We did see a couple of Blue Herons, a few ducks and also lots of sea gulls on docks and rocks.

Enjoy the pictures.
