Palau team spear fisherman, Keo Sakuma, dips under his team's moving boat in pursuit of a big fish outside the reef at Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, July 23, 2002, during team spear fishing competition at the 5th Micronesia Games. U.S. Navy medics, positioned nearby in safety boats, provided medical assistance to Pohnpei safety officials during the spear fishing competition. Spear fishing competitions can sometimes become deadly for divers who ignore safety. In competition, divers chasing large medal fish at depths of 60 meters on a single breath can experience a dangerous condition known as shallow water blackout. Sakuma helped his team win the gold medal when by spearing a 36-pound Napoleon Wrasse at 30 meters below the surface. Sakuma said the winning fish was as friendly as a puppy.

２００２年７月２３日、ポンペイ州、コロニア市沖、ヤリで魚を捕る競技の最中にパラオ代表チームで漁師のケオ サクマが船の下へ潜りチームを見守る。この種目を見守っているのは彼だけではない。すぐ近くには、「第５回ミクロネシア競技大会」の本部に救護支援を提供しているアメリカ海軍の衛生兵が救護ボートでスタンバイ。安全をかえりみない選手にとって、この種目は時に深刻な事故につながる。この競技ではメダル級の魚を素潜りで捕ため、一息で６０メートル近く潜る。競技中、浅瀬でも突然気を失ったりするため、非常に危険が伴う。サクマのチームは３６ポンドのナポレオンフィッシュを捕り、見事金メダルを獲得した。サクマは「捕った魚は猫のように寄ってきたよ」と感想を一言述べていた。
