Een claustrum (klooster) is het immuniteitsgebied van een kapittel waar de wereldlijke overheid geen
zeggenschap had. De Sint-Servaaskerk was tot eind 18e eeuw een kapittelkerk. Op het Sint-Servaasklooster
zelf staan panden die in opdracht van kanuniken waren gebouwd.
