Veterans War Memorial Tower

While I took this photo a few years ago I wanted to include it in this gallery.
At 3,491 feet Mt Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts.
The Veterans War Memorial Tower is at the very top of the mountain.
It was dedicated in June 1933.
It is now closed for repairs.
A few years ago when it was open I attempted to climb to the top.
The old metal circular stairway was very creaky and steep.
About halfway up I chickened out.
Back down I went figuring a photo of the building was good enough for me.

reminds of a rook, the chess piece, with a beacon on top to guide veterans home safely...sounds as if the outside view is the best one to grab..
