Tuesday US COVID News

AstraZeneca halts a vaccine trial to investigate a participant’s illness. The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca halted global trials of its coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday because of a serious and unexpected adverse reaction in a participant, the company said. The participant had been enrolled in a Phase 2/3 trial based in the United Kingdom. A volunteer in the U.K. trial had been found to have transverse myelitis, an inflammatory syndrome that affects the spinal cord and is often sparked by viral infections. However, the timing of this diagnosis, and whether it was directly linked to AstraZeneca’s vaccine, is unclear. AstraZeneca is one of three companies whose vaccines are in late-stage clinical trials in the United States. Trump’s October Surprise for the USA??? Or maybe a reason that a COVID vaccine shouldn’t be rushed?

Trump returns to a familiar theme: denouncing virus restrictions. As the presidential campaign entered the post-Labor Day sprint to the finish line, President Trump returned to a familiar theme this week: minimizing the threat posed by the virus, sometimes in ways that contradict the advice of federal health authorities.

Trump goes maskless during speech during rally in North Carolina. Most individuals higher up on the stands away from Trump and most supporters on the ground in front of Trump's podium were not sporting masks. Before Tuesday's event, the Republican chairman of the local county commission said the President should wear a mask during his speech, a virtually unimaginable prospect for a President who has been mocking his rival for wearing one and who demanded reporters remove their face coverings when asking him questions on Monday.

Meanwhile, where US cases are now the highest per capita
N.D. , S.D. , Iowa, & Mo.

North and South Dakota obviously have the August Sturgis rally to thank for their now being a Hot Zone. However, people’s “There is no COVID” lifestyles is probably more to blame in Iowa and Missouri. Both are politically red states in which the governors don’t believe in a mask mandate nor asking for people to behave any differently than as if everything were normal; just like a pandemic wasn’t happening. These are “Trump States”. A large number of people (all ages) follow his lead; even if it might mean risking their lives or killing others.
