Common name is Chicken of the Woods. Quite good though not so good as the eastern North America species. It is found on standing or downed conifers. Brilliantly colorful, it should be thoroughly cooked and only tender young specimens such as the above one should be eaten. Use only the growing margins and discard the rest of the fruit body. Older specimens are tough. It persists for a long time on the wood.
