Gothic town hall

At the time this was built, the city councils were trying to match churches for impressiveness. Gouda has a very good example. The richness of the sculpture, a carillon with moving puppets...

It was the expression of the shifting of authority to the civil from the clerical. As you can see, the form did not change much yet.
