After reading lots of reports of Rose-throated Becards on the De Anza Trail near Tubac, Arizona we decided to give it a try. As luck would have it, we arrived just as a huge thunderstorm was hitting so after about half an hour waiting in the car for the rain to stop, we hit the trail. It ended up being a tad muddier than I would have liked but it made it a bit more of an adventure. What made it even more of an adventure is that we didn’t exactly know where the birds were being seen. After building up about six inches of mud on the bottom of our shoes we finally spotted this little beauty and its mate at the top of a tall tree. In the end I was surprised at how well the photo came out, when we first spotted him I was afraid it was a lost cause.
