Blue Grouse, now called Dusky Grouse

North Kaufman Ridge, Chaffee County, Colorado

This female grouse, sheltering her several chicks, was quite volubly startled when I nearly stepped on her in crossing a fallen aspen log.
Here, she has settled down to the business of regrouping; the chicks scattered for cover in multiple directions.
