20th of June 2020. This is not split, there is nothing wrong with it.

I took my van in for an MOT and a new exhaust silencer because it was split.
The photo is the silencer on my van.
The dealership told me the silencer was not split, and it must be ok because it passed the MOT.
Confused is what I am.

Silencer cans are often double walled. Most likely the inner is still good.
Only by being under there when the motor is running and checking for exhaust gas leaks can you be sure.
As its not a structural part, rust there is not an MoT failure
