While sitting in the front of the house, we heard a loud *THUNK* come from the back. We know that sound. It is the sound of a bird hitting one of the windows in the back yard and this one sounded pretty final. We went to check it out and looking through the back picture window we saw this Cooper's Hawk sitting on the fence. His/her arrival had caused all the other birds to flee and one dove didn't survive the escape attempt into the other window. We watched and waited and the hawk finally flew down off the fence, walked through the yard and onto the back patio, grabbed ahold of the dead dove, and flew off with dinner.
