from the IV she had in her teeny tiny leg. Without fur, Bailey's leg looks even smaller than I imaged. Her itty bitty leg is only as thick as my pinkie finger!!! However, there is absolutely nothing frail about her.
Taking a pet to the vet, during the time of COVID, is different than how it used to be pre COVID. The way our vet clinic now does things is that the clients stay in their car until a tech comes out and takes the pet. So there is no real face to face conversation with the vet. Most everything is done over the phone with either the front deck reception or with a vet tech. Wearing a mask, a vet tech gets the dog out of your car & then later returns the pet after treatment is finished. Everything is "contact less". The vet tech was also the one who talked to the vet before he examined Bailey and did treatment. We were given no other option. We're living in some crazy times.
We were called by the clinic receptionist several times (along with a price quote) for them to get approval to do additional tests and treatment. Frankly, all we cared about is having Bailey get well. Price was not a main option. You can't put a price on a family member. The vet, who we used for many, many years before now, knew that. He just did whatever was needed & his price was reasonable. However, because not everyone can afford super expensive health care for their pet, I can understand why this "newer" clinic kept calling for approval. The final vet bill was huge.
Bailey is home now, but she's still not acting like her normal self. Based on her blood work, she's now on 3 different medications. Two are only for 2 weeks & the third is for 4 weeks. The vet is optimistic that she'll be back to 100% completely better by mid July. That's a long time off, but 100% healthy sounds great; even if it does take some time. Until now, Bailey has never been ill in her life. So this has been an unsettling event.
Because of COVID, wash your hands well when you've been out in public!!! Also, wash your dog well AFTER she's been "away from home" with strangers during this time of COVID. We're living in really crazy times when immediately giving the dog a bath can mean staying healthy or not. Our dogs get against our faces. Luckily, Bailey actually enjoys warm baths and the toasty air from the hair drier.
