After seeing bunches of photos from a field of sunflowers near Snook, TX curiosity got the best of me and I made the trip up to check them out. It was fun to go to a new location, especially one with so much photographic promise. I wasn’t sure exactly where to go but had a vague description of where the flowers were. At first, I found a field with sunflowers and a couple of cars pulled over with people out looking at them. Unfortunately, these sunflowers looked way past their prime; wilting and looking pretty sad. I was afraid I had wasted a trip, but just before I gave up, I decided to drive around a little more. I’m glad I did because before long I saw at least a dozen cars parked on the side of the road and a huge patch of bright yellow sunflowers. I parked the car then walked out to the field and this Red-winged Blackbird was singing away and created a scene that I just couldn’t resist.
