Destination Paddled: Petrie Island, Orleans, Ontario
Date: June 9, 2020
Number of Paddlers: 4
Temperature: 17C (63 F)
Distance paddled: 8.0 km (5 miles)
Our first Covid-19 paddle with “social distancing”. Too easy. The one big change was having to take separate vehicles. We loaded our own gear in our own cars then drove to the start point of the paddle. I hooked onto the kayak trailer and picked up all the boats first. We all have the same boats so they are well over the accepted distance apart when carried. We also had the correct space between us at launch and at the end of the trip. Easy to keep distance when on the paddle.
We had a wee bit of excitement as we were paddling to the culvert that goes under the road to Petrie Island bridge. We had whirlpools! Had to watch our speed and direction carefully.
Saw a lot of Canada Geese and their babies. Even saw a couple of Vultures that were also “social distancing” from us and each other!
Future paddles will have to be carefully selected to ensure that there is enough parking for all the vehicles.
Enjoy the pictures.
