Stayin' Alive

In the time of Covid-19 Saturday Night Fever and Staying Alive are taking on a whole new meaning. Now that restrictions are being lifted a lot of folks are acting like the pandemic is over- well it's NOT. Locally hundreds of people are gathering here to protest social injustice right now. I get it. I am appalled by the amount of social injustice that exists in the US today. But I guess the irony escapes them that by congregating like that in support of the Black community they are unwittingly also supporting the spread of a deadly virus that disproportionately affects people of color. That seems misguided at the very least and yet another form of social injustice at its worst. On June 4th SD County recorded its highest one day total of new cases yet, 240, to bring the grand total to 8,180 and 294 deaths. The number of cases in Encinitas is up to 64, double the number since the middle of May. This comes at a time when local school districts are struggling to come up with plans to bring our students safely back to school in the fall. And by all accounts school life will look very different for the children. I just wish folks would think about some of this stuff before they head out without a mask.

People definitely lose focus on what all is going on. Kids especially. I, like you, really hope they, as well as, minority voters make sure they are properly registered and show up en mass for the elections in November, hopefully with universal mail voting so their is no excuse and vastly reduced danger. Great still life idea and shot. ~BV~

Cuomo on protesters not wearing face masks: 'You have a right to demonstrate. You don't have a right to infect other people.'
A cool composition with fabulous light...V

In my area the media was all aghast about anybody in public not wearing masks but when the protesters started not wearing masks was never mentioned even when the protesters were tightly packed and were in people’s faces up close.

an insightful re-purposing of Stayin' Alivem well staged and captured...and yes there is contradiction in the manner of the well intentioned protests that are bringing so many people far too close to each other...they are right to speak out, yet not careful enough with regard to distancing....social inequalities take a further toll when such a widespread epidemic occurs, so people of colour are again the main victims...what a sad irony..

I realize that my comments might be controversial so let me give you a little more of my local perspective. Here in SD County Hispanics make up 34.5% of the population and 66% of the number of cases and the highest percentages of deaths. In fact the number of cases among Hispanics is more than twice that of all the other racial/ethnic groups put together. The causes are multifactorial, but it is undeniable that they are suffering disproportionately to the rest of the population. Here in Encinitas from what I can tell the protesters are white, young and a lot aren't wearing masks. As a group they have a lot less to lose than one of the communities they are trying to support. Unfortunately the protesters are the same demographics that tend to not show up the to polls on election day- when they can really make a difference.

Your comment is well stated and one most thinking people agree with. Your dancing figure under the ball is very imaginative, Nick

You are absolutely right but I think people have been pushed to the limit and they just they can't take it anymore. There is no going back to normal, our world is going to be a very different place. Terrific photo and text.

Very creative. John Travolta would love it. I’m worried we are going to a big spike in cases. V

I couldn't agree with your commentary more. I simply don't understand what people are thinking. Or maybe they're not.
