This is an impressionist 11"x 14" oil painting on stretched canvas of the historic restored Smithfield Plantation in Blacksburg, Virginia. This painting is based on a late 1990's photograph. The biggest change as compared to today is the loss of the large tree on the right side of the painting. There is no time in my opinion that Smithfield is any prettier than after a winter snow storm.
This home was owned by William Preston, a prominent Southwestern Virginia Revolutionary War patriot, and was completed in 1774. Smithfield is on the National Register Of Historic Places.
