Franklin Presbyterian Church Cemetery

Mississippi

Franklin Presbyterian Church was founded in 1841 by hearty settlers in the then frontier of Mississippi . It now is a vacant reminder of these brave souls who lived here and worshiped here. The town of Franklin was incorporated in 1836 when President Andrew Jackson sold a block of land in Holmes County Mississippi to a group of settlers from Virgina, Alabama, and South Carolina. The town was named Franklin in honor of Benjamin Franklin. Franklin became a thriving community. The church was organized in 1841 and is the second oldest Presbyterian church in the state of Mississippi! The first building was made entirely of logs; the second and still remaining building was built on land donated by John Caldwell.
