Today we loaded on the Harris County Precinct 8 bus with about 20 other people from Gardeners by the Bay, Ginny's garden club. We were off on an excursion to Schulenburg, Texas to visit four of the famous Painted Churches in the area. We picked up a guide at the Chamber of Commerce and started the tour. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy, so outside photography wasn't vey good.
Czech and German immigrants settled this part of Texas. They came to farm and ranch and build small communities. Their churches were an important part of those communities. They are all Catholic churches built at the end of the 19th century and early in the 20th century. They are not very large, but the interiors were something to behold.
Today's photo is Ginny's shot of the interior of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina. By the way, these two guys were brothers credited with devising the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets to translate the Bible and other books into the Slavic languages.
