The Jenny

From the Barnstorming Days

I listened with fascination as the gentleman in the previous photo spoke.
He was telling a story of Charles Lindbergh’s first airplane.
Apparently Lucky Lindy crashed his plane in an Iowa pig farmer’s field.
Lindy decided it was beyond repair and told the farmer he could have it.
The farmer dragged the broken plane into his barn and there it sat for years.
This is the actual Curtis JN-4D ‘The Jenny” that Lindbergh crashed that day.
The story was confirmed by Charles Lindbergh himself.

A beautiful shot of this famous airplane. The Curtis OX-5 engine that powered this aircraft was produced in vast quantities that is powered many different types of aircraft in the 1920s-1930s. The OX-5 Club of America honors this engine and the early aviation pioneers.

"The Jenny" is connected to Glenn H Curtiss (the first person to fly in 1908) from Hammondsport, NY.
