Red Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos rufus)

Up to this point on the journey into the south-west of Western Australia, we'd been wondering "where are the kangaroo paws?" as this group of species are often used to characterise the flora of the region.
This was our first one, a solitary plant on a roadside as we travelled through the extensive wheatfields north-west of Esperance.
We saw many more later in the journey.

We found the wildflowers quite prolific in the most unusual places,
its a while since we did the trip down to SW of WA... they'd had good
rains the year we were there. Lovely to see this in its natural home.
