Grote Trap, Great Bustard, Oostvoorne/Brielle ZH, the Netherlands, 19-01-2020. As genuine vagrant this species is quite rare in our country, the last time it was recorded was during the winter of 2010. This bird was discovered at the end of last december. The bird actually wears a green ring with the inscription LT and has a wire (sender). On the photo, the ring isn't visible and the wire I cloned away. Great Bustard is an vunerable species, this bird originated from a German captivity program. The breeding/this egg originated from a breeding couple in the wild, but the egg was secured because the breeding took place in a non-protected area. After the egg had hatched and the chick was fully grown, the bird was released in the "Havelländische Luch", approximately 580 km from Oostvoorne/Brielle, the place of discovery.
