Parker Drilling Co. Rig No. 114

Elk City, OK

The now shuttered Anadarko Basin Museum of Natural History is located on Route 66 on Main Street in Elk City. Unfortunately, the museum, founded by oil history enthusiast John West and others, was closed because of a lack of funding. The museum building, the Casa Grande Hotel, remains listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A powerful tourist attraction stands beside the shuttered museum: Parker Drilling Co. Rig No. 114 — one of the world’s largest drilling rigs, 181 feet tall, and visible from Interstate 40. Source: The American Oil & Gas Historical Society

What a great job of conveying the emense size of this rig. The interaction of the diagonal clouds and your angle of capture really makes this dynamic. This is really nice work Dan. VVV

An interesting story about the rig. Your image defines the bulk of it. When I saw "PARKER" I thought of your town in Colorado but no connection.

Great subject. Portrait framing was the perfect choice for this POV.
