03 Courner Pocket

...lots of technical problems with this...sigh...The place was closing, I was finishing by sweet tea and realized I had my camera in my briefcase...kinda of strange to begin with. I had 7 minutes till closing in this establishment, it was dark, I had to ask these people if I could shoot their game, (they were strangers), I had no idea what the settings should be...Obviously, my starting 6400iso did not work, nor did 3200, I was going the wrong way, and 1/50sec hand held was crazy too fast.

Sigh, and sigh again...this more or less works as a final image but I seriously would have liked a longer view of the table and deep focus....I reserve the right to shoot this again...if I can find anyone to let me, (and hopefully at less noisy iso...this has added exposure in PS)

Be that as it may, my real problem was thinking that I couldn't time the shot because the buffer in the 77D was way not deep enough and it was taking forever to cycle back up again...but you work with what you got, (kind of a wartime shooting philosophy), and more importantly, what you know and don't know.

I thought maybe I need to shoot JPEG next time...truth is, I just needed to set the camera for continuous shooting....which I never do so I don't even know it is there...Well! Next time, foolish me...grin

LOL....actually & really, where I hang and shot the 13 ball shot...prohibits photos of any kind because it is kind of copyrighted itself as it appears in films from time to time.

I shoot there because, Who's going to stop me? Kind of a weird statement, but sorta true....still, even I, or especially I, must use kindness and discretion in all things...

I could never set up there as you suggest...never....I am happy to get away with what I do....lol

We have a pool table in the basement that we’ve had for 20 + years. These days it mostly collects dust or storage for other junk so I had unlimited availability to shoot.

Geeze do I have to come out there and show you how it’s dun? ;-) Of course not! As far you being able to shoot a table shot, just plunk down your 10 bucks or what ever it cost these days to play and the table is your to do what ever you want. 2nd curtain is a product of the camera settings and stroboscopic is a feature of the flash. Setup a tripod, use a remote trigger and your only limited by your imagination. Paul.

Lovely shot, Paul, thanks for posting. I have looked up 2nd curtain sync also, but I do not think the technique is/would be available to me...I don't have the time for that kind of set up...nor would strangers have the patience that I feel would be necessary for someone as fubble-thumbed as myself would need to be able to even start to take this kind of shot.

But seeing your work is ALWAYS a pleasure.

Shouldn't the title be Blue Balls?

I recall that example. Has it really been that long?

Here is one example from 08/2011. Paul

Paul - could you share links to these shots?
I don't think the older Canon Flash I have is capable of this (actually I have never even considered it).

If you do a deep dive on my entries you’ll find I have several pool table motion photos and this is a fine example of the style. I always loved shooting the break with 2nd curtain flash and or stroboscopic settings. Paul

I see Jim' point. This is probably one of those instances where the image I like more may not fit the challenge as well. Was it the bright lights or the photographer that was moving? Or both?

Personally, I think this works very well for the challenge; perhaps better than the bright lights. I really like the blurred balls while at the same time #5 is crystal clear and sharp. I do agree that a rapid fire continuous shooting would give you lots of options to choose from.
