Onwards to York! Yesterday was supposed to be sunny; however, it started out windy and rainy. Meteorologists have a difficult job predicting the weather in North Yorkshire!
One point of interest are the very steep hills in North Yorkshire. The steepest hill that we came across was at a 30* angle; many others were 20* & 25*! Needless to say, Steph was quite frightened! 😬
We decided to return to Goathland - we just had to see more sheep and check out the few shops in the village. The mud was just too much for Steph - she came very close to buying a pair of rabbit wellies! But, the thought of trying to get them home prevented her from making the purchase.
We ventured across hill & dale to Thornton Le Dale in search of the thatched cottage. Little did we know, the village was absolutely charming! Lunch at Morris’ Deli included a lovely bowl of potato leek soup, bread & Victoria sponge cage. Yummy for our tummy food! This little eatery was very much a locals place; we were privileged to catch up on the town gossip! WOT will be the next business to move in and replace the butcher shop? This is the town’s best kept secret at this point, but it is guaranteed to surprise everyone!
After locating the thatched cottage, we were off to York. Oh my! I think we’re going to love this charming city! York is a young persons city - it has 2 universities and lots of students were out on the streets enjoying their Friday night. Dinner at Skosh was one of the finest, most delicious & creative meals we have ever had. The quality of food is right up there with Vetri in Philadelphia.
Today we will meetup with Pbaser, Colin, & his wife. Looking forward to meeting them and exploring this charming city together!
