Yesterday was a good day for us! We drove through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside from Harrogate to Fountains Abbey. We were amazed at how much the countryside reminded us of Chester County!
Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. The ruins of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal lie four miles away from Ripon and is a UNESCO World heritage site. We were fortunate to dodge raindrops as we explored this beautiful property!
Sunday roast was on the menu for us in the charming town of Ripon. We just had to try Yorkshire pudding in Yorkshire! Steph got her clotted cream fix at the Yorkshire Tea Cafe - what a delicious treat! Ripon was chock-full of crocheted poppies everywhere! It reminded us of our day with Simon & Lin in Winchester last year. 😊
We plan to explore Harrogate, Knaresborough & the surrounding area today. The weather has turned south which may drive us indoors.
Northern Yorkshire is a beautiful part of England! We have been pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the Yorkshire people! Looking forward to another week here!
