We drove by several of these bizarre looking birds during our visit to Ethiopia this past August before we actually had the opportunity to get out and take some photos of my own. The Hamerkop was one I had seen lots of photos of before the trip and it was quite exciting to finally get some photos. I would have been happy with a photo of the bird just standing still, and this one obliged. If that wasn’t enough it took off and flew right past us for some action shots.
