This desert like landscape stretches along the Murray Valley Highway, with its typical low "mallee" eucalypts and hardy grasses. The blanket of sandy soil which characterises the Mallee, has created gentle, dry and flat scenery. Some of this is National Park but much of the Mallee was cleared in the past by hardy pioneers and produces wheat and sheep.
