An antique tsakli painting, Tibet, 19th Century or earlier (much earlier) depicting within a white edged red mandorla on a deep blue lotus throne, a wrathful 'inner offering' within a skull cup 'kepala' which in turn rests on 3 skulls. The Inner Offering consists of the visualised offering of the inner substances derived from the bodies of humans and animals. According to the anuttarayoga tantra practices, these ten 'impure' substances are visualised as boiling or melting within a skull cup to produce a pure elixir of consecrated nectar or 'amrita' which is then used to bless the outer offerings and tormas, and to transform the 5 impure aggregates and elements of the practitioner into the wisdoms of the 5 Buddhas and their consorts, the Five Mothers. 9 lines of text to the reverse, with 1 red illumination and 3 other syllables in different hands. 8.9 x 12.6cm
