COYOTE CREEK COVERED BRIDGE

This covered bridge is located on Battle Creek Road just south of Crow on Territorial Hwy. It is 60 feet long and of Howe Truss design. It was built in 1922, and is still open to light traffic. In 1969 the bridge suffered snow damage to its roof, which has since been replaced. it is also known as Battle Creek Bridge and Swing Log Bridge.

At one time Oregon had over 600 covered bridges. Now there are 50 that one can visit, some of them still in use. I have photos of well over half of those still in existance.

Were they covered because of the rainy weather or some other reason?

I was fascinated by these and used to photograph as many as I could find in Pa when I lived there many, many years ago,
back in the days of wet film photography! Nice reminder of happy times! V.

presumably covered bridges are intended to keep the road surface dry and so safer, especially in winter...a fine shot here..

A most beautiful image of this still in use old covered bridge Vern. Like I mentioned to Marcia, who posted a roadless covered bridge today, I have never understood the need for covered bridges, but they are beautiful.
