Destination Paddled: Ecolands Park to Vimy Bridge, Rideau River, Ottawa, Ontario

This was a slight variance on a paddle that we do every year and it is always enjoyable. We decided to put in at a municipal park on the other side of the river from our usual put in of Black's Rapids Lock. After a brutal hot and humid month of July, this was a refreshing change with very little humidity.

It turned out the park was being used for water skiing lessons so we just had to watch out for the beginning skiers and the boats but only for a short time around the launch area. We paddled towards the lock station and then turned around and paddled down to the Vimy Bridge where we had lunch, then paddled back to the launch.

We saw some Canada Geese, some Mallards and two Blue Heron and a couple of turtles.. We did see a few kayakers and a couple of big cruisers go by.
