Big Bend National Park is probably most know to birders because it is the only place in the ABA area that you can reliably find Colima Warblers on public lands. Every summer I make my pilgrimage up the Pinnacles trail to see the warblers but I think the bird I most look forward to seeing during my visits is the more colorful Varied Bunting. It’s not just mad dogs and Englishmen who go “walking” in the noon-day sun, it seems these little purple birds love to sing their hearts out during the heat of the day when all the other birds are hiding in the shade.
