Before it was turned into a public park in 1931, the area was the private garden of senator Max Hayn who bought the property in 1873. The monopteros in the middle was the senator's favourite spot for having his morning coffee. Originally painted white, the last restoration brought on the egg yellow. In an attempt to combat graffiti, local artists added a mural which is supposed to be changed every spring
