From its earliest years, Cadillac aimed for precision, engineering,
and stylish luxury finishes, causing its cars to be ranked among the
finest in the United States. In 1904, Cadillac began building small
delivery vans mounted on Model B passenger car chassis. Soon after,
the later Model M was offered exclusively as a delivery vehicle.
These small, light delivery trucks had approximately 45 cubic feet of
cargo space and were rated between 600 and 900 pounds. The C-cab design
was used on all vans but no windshield was provided, which was a standard
shortcoming of the time. Headlights were not standard equipment until 1910.
Trucks similar to this example were used as delivery vehicles by the
Wanamaker Department stores in Philadelphia and New York. Wanamaker's was
the first department store in Pennsylvania and one of the first in the
United States.
