Four lunch-time images, not for the faint of heart. The last three images are in B&W to minimize the goryness of Mom tenderly feeding one of its two young owlets.

Top Image: Mom has arrived with lunch, a Red Squirrel. She then first looks back to see if the coast is clear.


"Hurry up Mom, I'm still hungry."

Note how Mom has tenderly placed her right wing in behind junior in order to prevent it from falling off the branch in its excitement.
Mom continues feeding until this one has had enough. She then takes the rest to its sibling perched a short distance away.

This was the first of two owlets to fledge from, or be pushed out of its tree cavity nest. I think it probably accidentally fell, or more likely was pushed from the edge of the nest-hole by its sibling. Once on the ground, it remained in the same area for some 4 - 5 days before venturing up onto trees and/or branches. Its sibling fledged some 4 - 5 days later and immediately started the upward climb off the ground. At all times, Mom and Dad stood guard in nearby trees.
