Thirty years ago today!
June 4th, 1989, Poland’s first free elections under Communist rule paved the way for democracy and the death of communism.
Lech Walesa in the middle, in the TV interview tonight, with the famous poster using the "High Noon" Gary Cooper armed with a ballot in place of his six-shooter, with a Solidarity logo behind him and one next to his heart, over his badge.
The poster was displayed all over Poland, encouraging voters to end Communist control of Poland.
The 1989 elections – the first democratic election in Eastern Europe since 1946 – finally brought to power Lech Walesa and the once outlawed Solidarity Party.
