It was a tall stem, and I shot with the camera close to the ground. The closest grass was a lot farther from the dandelion than the dandelion was to the lens.
It is certainly true that f/14 would have more DOF, and the green background would have more structure and features. I can still see a hint of them here at f/8.
But that would be more usual. This almost uniform background is a bit unusual. I like the look around the stem, which has to have closer grass.

What is the background that blurs out so well? And how far is it from the flower?
