Ned Kelly mural outside a folk museum in Benalla, Victoria

Ned Kelly was a celebrated bushranger (outlaw, highwayman) of the Gold Rush era in colonial Victoria. Often portrayed wearing his home-made armour, his image epitomises an Australian rebel, a martyr even. Kelly was briefly imprisoned in the police lock-up here in Benalla.
