Today we started our trek back to Houston after 34 days in the great state of Hawaii. Looking back, we had a lot of great adventures and saw a lot of cool stuff. Ginny's planning efforts paid off. No mistakes or booboos.
In order to get back home we had to fly to Honolulu to get a non-stop United flight to Houston. I will tell you that I just hate commercial air travel. Because we had an eight hour layover in Honolulu our plan was to rent a car and do one last bit of touring. The line at the car rental was an hour long so we said the heck with it and camped out at the gate. That turned out to be a very good idea. Ginny spent the time working on her scrap book. I goofed around and listened to some podcasts.
The flight was completely full. We charged aboard and managed to get our stuff in the overhead bins. Departure was at 8:00 pm and we were scheduled to arrive in Houston at 8:30 am the next day. We had bought some snacks and sandwiches for the trip because there is no complimentary meal service on this 8 hour flight. That worked out well. Sleeping was just about impossible. I tried to watch some movies but just couldn't get into them. I hate the red eye flights, but it was the only way to go if you want a direct flight.
I would have been happy to spend a lot more time in Hawaii, but we needed to get back home so we could prepare for our next road trip in a week. Today's photo is a selfie we took from our seats on the Houston flight.
