M64, commonly called the Black Eye Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices having a very prominent and asymmetric dust lane outside the central core on the side facing Earth.

This galaxy is believed to be about 24 million light years from Earth, and is a relatively small galaxy, containing perhaps 100 billion stars. It was independently discovered by three European astronomers in the late 18th century, lastly by Charles Messier in 1780. While M64's bright core makes it fairly easy to find visually with a telescope, its small size when viewed from Earth (about five by ten arc-minutes) makes it difficult to see any detail with a small telescope.
