Without question Professor of Architecture, Fabio Cremonesi, had been an active member
of the Partito Communisto Italiano (PCI) although he had always denied that to his friends
and especially forcefully to his volatile colleague at the University of Milano, the celebrated
and emotionally flamboyant poet, Giammartino D’Auria. While many people suspect all poets
to be left wing, Giammartino was an admirer of Gabriele D’Annunzio and a fervent exponent
of Italian recovery of the lands now lost to Slovenia and Croatia. In his more extreme moments
he even joked about recovering Nice and the Haut Savoie from the French.
