Cherry blossoms and the Jefferson Memorial

Wednesday was a spectacular day, and Tim was off, so we decided to brave the gridlock on the streets and crowds of people to view the cherry blossoms on the Tidal Basin, although it certainly wasn’t as packed as last weekend.

The city of Tokyo gifted 3,000 cherry trees to the US capital 107 years ago, in 1912. Despite the hassles of getting to the Tidal Basin, many DC area residents honor the tradition of visiting during peak bloom, and people come from all over the country to see this gorgeous sight.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Everybody loves the cherry blossoms, posted earlier:

This is one of the best images I have seen of the Jefferson Memorial. NBC news the other night commented on the beautiful spring blooms and you really used the cherry blossoms as an excellent faming feature in this beautiful capture. VVV+++

I read in the Denver paper that there has been a lot flooding along the tidal basin that it is killing the cherry trees. This a shame! Great capture Helen.

a delightful view...the Japanese also donated lots of cherry trees to Vancouver, and the city still benefits from their kindness...the first wave is in bloom at the moment, but the second wave in 3-4 weeks, an alternate variety one supposes, offers richer pinks....perhaps will relent this year and take a shot or two...
