I know what you mean. I just started playing with this type of abstract. I can see where it has a lot of potential. But I have a long way to go before I get comfortable with it.
The pro that got me started showed me his portfolio of his work in abstracts. He said he took a 7 month course in abstracts, and came to love this technique. But I liked some of his abstracts, and not others - just like I do when I visit an art gallery.
I also really liked his portfolio of other shots, so I figured if it was good for him, it would be good for me. I've literally just started, and as he pointed out, the selection of a flower will play a huge role as well.
