These items were part of a total collection of ritual objects taken from a family in Bole, northwest Ghana. The owner has been converted to Christianity and handed the objects over to the Parish Priest. The items were set on fire in order to destroy them but that failed to happen. They were then left on the grass in the open air and stayed that way for more than two years thus suffering serious degradation. This figure represent the modern claassically known Lobi figures. The arms are falling down to rest on the belly. The face is severe and the mouth closed with the lips coming out as though they have undergone ritual massaging ; a common feature of Lobi early 19th century Lobi practice. The eyeballs are bulging out. Height: 30cm. There are slides on the penis suggesting some form of mutilation. Parts of the outer bark wood, particularly on the feet, has been eaten by termites suggesting old age and neglect of maintenance in tendering. The left leg was broken when found.
