This item was part of a total collection of ritual objects taken from a family in Bole, northwest Ghana. The owner has been converted to Christianity and handed the objects over to the Parish Priest. The items set on fire in order to destroy them but that failed to happen. They were then left on the grass in the open air and stayed that way for more than two years thus suffering serious degradation. This figure with a similar other are possibly the oldest ancestral wooden figurines in the shrine and represent the mythical ancestor constructed as a fetish object. The two represent the male and female founding ancestors and the style of sculptor indicates the time of their make. Description and Special Features: The head is unusually large and heavy. When found they were special plant material around the neck as a necklace. The legs have all been eaten by termites and a good part of the trunk. Height of the remaining figure: 40 cm. There a markings resembling a two extra eyes on the both sides of the head and two similar ones, one on the each cheek. The circumference of the head is about 33cm
