This small cottontail lives in very wet places.
It prefers mostly brackish cattail marshes but will also frequent freshwater marshes and swamps.
It has short legs and tends to walk instead of hop and will sometimes walk upright on its hindlegs.
It swims readily, hiding from predators by floating with just its eyes and nose out of the water.
