Winter Park is on the north east edge of Greater Orlando. It started our with a few wealthy people from the northern states looking for an escape from the cold winters. Today, it is known for the very expensive multi-million dollar homes that line the shorlines.
( https://cityofwinterpark.org/government/city-info/history/). The chain of lakes is a series of lakes that are joined by small canals and streams. On this paddle we put in at Dinky Dock, on Lake Virginia, near Rollins College and paddled north into Lake Osceola and then north into Lake Maitland and then back. These are three of the larger lakes in the chain
We didn't seen any gators but we did see lots f Egrets, and Ibis, gulls, Cormorants and an Osprey. Although the day was very overcast most of the time, there were times the sun was out and we even got about 20 drops of rain when were were paddling. The rain came after were were out of the water and the kayaks were loaded.
We encountered some power boats out fishing. The other thing popular on the lakes are the pontoon tour boats. Our main concern about them was meeting them in the numerous narrow canals that join the lakes. If we met them in the canals, our only choice was to duck into one of the many boat houses that are all along most of the canals.
Great day for a paddle. Mixed in with the beautiful homes were the parks and old trees.
Enjoy the pics.
