I stayed at this northern guest house for about five nights.
There were two other guests: an American missionary and a
drunken French lady. The American looked dirtier but the
French woman smelled worse. I probably smelled a tad bit
unpleasant as well as there was no shower in the facility.


Frenchy would start drinking at about 8:00 AM. The missionary
would wait until about 10:00 before he started drinking.
My alcoholism wouldn’t kick in until about 18:00. Every
night ended the same. I would offer the unshaven French
woman a beer if she would not talk to me and I would tell
the missionary that he was surely going to hell for all
his sins. Neither one cared what I had to say
as long as I paid for the beer.
