Varadero, Cuba

Perseverance epitomized.

My grandsons and I watched this small "army" of ants moving a bread crumb up a
vertical wall .
The crumb was about 5/8" (1.6 cm) in length, and they had already moved it about 3.5 ft (1 m) up the wall when we spotted it.
We watched for about 15 min., during which time the army advanced about an inch (2.5 cm), occasionally slipping
back a bit when, presumably, one or two of the ants got tired. We think they were heading for where we assumed
the nest was (because of all the traffic around). But getting to the nest would have involved traveling about 6" (7 cm) on an
upside-down horizontal surface. Wonder how that worked out for them? We would have watched them longer,
but the ocean was beckoning.
Still, they showed a lot of perseverance.
