Crabronid wasp (Ectemnius sp.)

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

Nectaring on Yarrow. This tiny wasp is an attractive insect that does NOT STING! Most wasps do not sting. It is unfortunate that the few that do have given rise to the fear of all insects that look like wasps (whether they are wasps or wasp mimics). In fact, many wasps are excellent pollinators AND they are predators on some of the insects regarded as pests by gardeners and farmers.
